The General Conference of UNESCO given to Mrs Irina Bokova a second term at the head of the organization, informed today the news agencies worldwide.
In early October, the Executive Board of UNESCO elected with 39 of 58 votes Mrs Irina Bokova to lead the organization at a second term.
The position of Director General was also claimed by two other candidates, Mr. Joseph Myla from Lebanon and the Permanent Representative to UNESCO and Ambassador of Djibouti to France Mr. Rashad Farah, who got respectively 6 and 13 votes.
Today’s decision was supported by the majority of Member States participating in the 37th session of the General Conference in Paris. In fact, 160 countries voted for Mrs Bokova , 14 “against ” and one abstained .
The second mandate of Mrs Irina Bokova will end at December 2017.
The installation ceremony will take place on November 18th, 2013.
